1/ After MASS IN shadow around the eyes, I REFINE
the shadow with details.
2/ In portraying the furs, understanding the furs
is important. There are short and long furs.
Some stick together in patches.
3/ I use a sharp point (a ball point pen which is
run out of ink) to mark some furs (INDENT) so
that the furs looks more realistic.
4/ It depends on artist preferences, looking
realistic is my favourite style.

1/ The grids lines are rubbed off. In portrait
I always begin from eyes in which normally is
my FOCAL POINT. Just MASS IN the darker shadow
and not being fussy about detail because this
layer is only a guide for next layer. The
underneath layer will always be BURIED anyway.
2/ Remember in STEP 1 about SHADOW PATCHES. That
is the place I MASS IN darker shadow.
1/ I started by drawing the dog on grids lines.
With grids lines is easier, faster and accurate
for me. As I draw the dog, I also draw in the
outline of SHADOW PATCHES so that I know where
to shade in darker tone as I progress with the
drawing.
